As I was trying to get Ginger to hold still so I could take a picture of her with a golf ball in her mouth, she decided it would be a great time to play a game I like to call "run away from Dad". Seen here is actually a popular variation on the game called "run away from Dad while holding something in my mouth".

Ginger didn't mind the ears too much, but Mochi didn't feel the same way.
Sorry, no dyed eggs for us this year. Somewhere in there we got a little busy and didn't get too it. Ginger doesn't seem to mind.
Kat, who is pretty handy with a sewing machine, is making Ginger's easter present (a new dog bed) right now. So, along with some bags of treats, she's going to make out pretty well.

Ginger has Eye Surgery

Well... eyelid surgery at least.
Ginger had some rouge eyelashes that were growing on the inside of her eyelid, which isn't the best place for eyelashes, especially when your eye makes up 90% of your face. The lashes were causing repeated eye infections and starting to make a nasty white spot on one of Ginger's eyes.
Luckily we already knew of a dog opthomologist up in Portland that was able to do the surgery. But since we're down in Klamath Falls, she spent the week with both sets of grand-pug-parents, which was just fine with them. We missed her very much while she was gone and now dread the day we have to send her off to college.
When she returned, she had to wear the cone for a couple of days, but she didn't let eight inches of plastic around her head slow her down. She had fun shoveling snow with it, so much so next winter we're going to hire her out to plow our neighbor's driveways.
Things are pretty much back to normal now. The winking is gone, the swelling is down, and the white spot is fading, which all points to a very successful surgery.

Dance Ginger, Dance

We sometimes hear strange noises coming out of Ginger's room after we put her to bed, but every time we check on her, nothing is out of the ordinary. So we hired a film crew to capture the action. We were shocked to see what was going on though, frankly, not surprised.

We went snowshoeing with Ginger up at Lake of the Woods, OR on New Year's Day. She had a great time leaping around in the pug-shoulder-high snow and running around on the frozen lake. She eventually got pretty tired, so we gave her a break by letting her ride in a backpack. This worked surpisingly well, although I think she would have preferred if we had brought a sled with us so we could just tow her along.

Hello Ginger!

This is our pug Ginger. She was born on February 12, 2006. We adopted her in May of 2006 as a present for Kat when she graduated from dental school. We also adopted her sister Pearl, but due to a serious eye condition, we had to return her to the breeder.

Fun Fact: Ginger was originally named "Mei", but that didn't match up with her energetic spirit.

The day we got her, we took her to the beach at Lincoln City, OR for a weekend. We didn't want to take her straight home because we have two Siamese cats who are very tempramental and tend to be jealous. So this gave us a few days to bond with Ginger before bringing her back into the Meeser maelstrom.

When we brought her home, Mochi (Siamese #1) was extremely displeased. Suki (Siamese #2), as usual, was terrified. Things weren't going so well between Meesers and Pug, but when we moved out of our apartment in Portland, OR to a house in Klamath Falls, OR for Kat's new job, the added space and fenced yard cooled off some of the hostility. Notably there is still a two-foot no-dog radius around Mochi that she enforces with swats and hisses. Suki is still just terrified, as usual.

We've started to train her, but as the videos show, it's usually a for-food only situation. We got her thinking that Pugs were chilled-out lap-dogs, but have found that she more like a two year-old that got into some Pixie Stixs. This is good because she does a lot of things you wouldn't expect to see a Pug doing(running, hiking, swimming, snowshoeing). Supposedly she'll calm down around two and a half years. We'll see.
